Buena Vista Audubon Society Birdathon
When? Saturday, May 8th, 7 am
Where? Nature Center, 2202 S. Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054
What? Participants will gather at the Nature Center, break off into teams headed up by designated leaders, and fan out to cover a number of birding hotspots within the City of Oceanside. Birders of all skill levels are invited to participate. We'll gather back at the Nature Center later in the morning to compare notes and tally up lists.

Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day at the Tijuana Estuary
When? Saturday, May 8th, 9am – 2pm
Where? Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center; located at 301 Caspian Way, Imperial Beach, CA 91932
What? Celebrate "The Power of Partnerships in Bird Conservation" as well as Endangered Species Day at this year's IMBD event. Find out first hand from an expert avian curator how multiple groups can successfully breed endangered species like the Light-footed Clapper Rail. Also join us for a live bird presentation, bird and nature walks along with games and crafts for kids of all ages. FREE!

Restoration Event at a Flyway City Hotspot, Famosa Slough
When? Saturday, May 8th, 9am – noon
Where? Famosa Slough, meet along West Point Loma Boulevard, about 200ft east of the Famosa Boulevard intersection
What? We’ll be restoring this important stopover by removing weeds, improving trails, picking up trash, etc.

Help Create a Community Habitat Garden to Save Water & Wildlife
When? Saturday, May 15th; NatureScape workshop from 9-10am; Volunteer work event 10am – 1pm
Where? Eastlake III’s Clubhouse at the Woods, 1150 Woods Drive, Chula Vista, CA 91914
What? Help transform a 1.4 acre turf area into a habitat garden that saves water and wildlife. Come an hour earlier to attend a FREE NatureScape workshop that will teach you how to compost, save water, and certify your property as an official Backyard Habitat.

Nature Walk at Normal Heights Canyon
When? Saturday, May 15th, 9:30 – 11:30
Where? Meet at the East end of Eugene Place, Normal Heights
What? Join the Friends of Normal Heights Canyons on a guided nature hike in the Eugene Canyon Open Space. Learn about the habitat restoration efforts implemented by the Friends group over the past three years, how the restoration work contributes to the ecological health of the San Diego River, and how you can get involved in future restoration work.

San Elijo Lagoon Day

What? Fabulous fun for the family is on the order at San Elijo Lagoon Day, a free public celebrationfeaturing demonstrations of volunteer stewardship activities, while visitors enjoy free guided walks, children's crafts, exciting exhibits, interactive games, face painting, storytelling and much more.

Migratory Bird Day Festival at Agua Hedionda Lagoon
When? Saturday, May 15th, 10am - 4pm
Where? Agua Hedionda Discovery Center; located at 1580 Cannon Road in Carlsbad, at the intersection of Cannon and Faraday. Exit I-5 at Cannon Road and go 1.3 miles east to Cannon Road.
What? Join us as we explore the fascinating life of these world travelers and learn about their unique adaptations and the difficulties they face on their annual migrations. The festival will offer a variety of hands-on activities and crafts for both children and adults. The event is free and open to the public.

Migratory Bird Day Field Trips – Three Birding Hot Spots in SD County!
When? Saturday, May 15th, 8 – 11am
Where? Buena Vista Lagoon, Kit Carson Park, and the Tijuana River Estuary
What? In coordination with the Flyway Cities Coalition this is a special birding event taking place at three different locations at the same time! The diversity of San Diego County’s habitats and birding locations provide a backdrop for enjoying a wonderful variety of migratory and sedentary bird species. Choose one of three well-known and favored birding sites being promoted during this event – Buena Vista Lagoon, Kit Carson Park and the Tijuana River Estuary.

"Where The Wild Things Are" Food & Wine Classic

What? A Culinary Celebration benefitting the Chula Vista Nature Center. Local restaurants and wineries. Animals form the San Diego Zoo. Celebrity Cooking Demonstrations. Nature Center Animal Encounters. Tickets are $95 (must be 21 or older to attend).

Celebrate San Diego River Days!

What? Two weekends of discovery and giving back to the San Diego River! This week-long celebration hosts 30 activities from the top of the river to the beach, including river cleanups, hikes, bike rides, festivals and much more.
