LOCATION: Hollywood Beach Golf Resort and field trips throughout Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties and the Everglades
One of the leading birding experts in the country, Kevin Karlson, will be conducting a keynote dinner address on BIRDS IN THE WIND-THE MIRACLE OF MIGRATION. LOCATION: Fern Forest Nature Center in Coconut Creek
John D. Lloyd, Ph.D., Senior Research Ecologist at Ecostudies Institute has agreed to be our guest speaker at the January 21, 2010 meeting of the South Florida Audubon Society.  He is also the director of the Mountain Birdwatch program at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies.  Dr. Lloyd is working on several studies including the effects of habitat management on plants and animals in alpine forests of the southeastern United States and the habitat needs of birds in Florida's mangrove forests. City of lighthouse poinT Enviromental fair and plant sale
LOCATION: McDonough Park 3500 NE 27th Avenue in Lighthouse Point
This event will feature booths with information on solar energy, saving water, recycling, building rain barrels, backyard wildlife habitats, and many more.  There will also be vendors with environmentally friendly products as well as vendors with unique plants you won’t find at Lowes.  There will be a kids’ art contest called “Trash to Treasure” in which kids use recycled objects to create art, fun games and hands on demo booths.  For more information contact Taryn Palo at gardenhelp@bellsouth.net or 561-789-4318.

LOCATION: Ann Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood
John Ogden will be speaking on "New Challenges in Bird Conservation in Florida: Red Knots, Redstarts and Red-headed Woodpeckers."  John is Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon of Florida and previously was Director of Ornithological Research Unit for the Everglades National Park. He was the first President of the Colonial Waterbird Society and was a member of the recovery teams for the American Crocodile, Wood Stork, and California Condor.  He co-edited the 1994 book: Everglades: The ecosystem and its restoration. LOCATION: Riverside Park in Coral Springs
Gardenfest Coral Springs vendors will be available with a wide variety of beautiful orchids, native plants, unusual ferns, wonderful roses, palms, succulents, herbs and many other plants. In addition to plants, we also have vendors that will feature lovely pottery, fountains and unusual art to enhance your garden.  Experts, including Master Gardeners, Wildlife Habitat Stewards and Nursery Growers will be available to provide advice on any garden problem you may have.  This event is free and open to the public.

LOCATION:  Tree Tops Park in Davie
Join us for the Broward County Natural Resources Planning and Management Division’s 8th annual environmental outreach event featuring exhibitors, booths, food, entertainment and many other activities.  All attendees will have to opportunity to receive free native trees and plants. Park admission of $1.50/person applies.  Children under 5 are free.

LOCATION:  Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie

LOCATION: Westglades Middle School in Parkland, Arthur Ashe Middle School in Ft. Lauderdale, Crystal Lake Middle School in Pompano Beach, Silver Trail Middle School in Pembroke Pines, Native plant giveaways, environmental booths and information. All of the above events are free and open to the public.

LOCATION: Fern Forest Nature Center in Coconut Creek
Dig in to discover how to design beautiful environmentally friendly landscapes that will save time, money and protect our natural resources! Learn how to create and maintain a NatureScape yard. Topics include designing for wildlife, putting the right plant in the right place, getting the water right, and landscaping to conserve energy.  This event is free and open to residents and Broward County employees.
