Flyway Cities Coalition - Making homes for wildlife on the move

Metro Atlanta Flyway Cities Coalition

The Metro Atlanta Flyway Cities Coalition launched with its first stakeholders meeting on March 12, 2009 at the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Alcovy Conservation Center in Covington, GA. Participants included representatives from academia, state and local government and local nonprofit and volunteer organizations.

Atlanta has been identified as one of the fastest growing cities in the country. The effects of rapid urbanization, pollution, drought and invasive species have severely degraded natural habitats in the region. Many native species, including the Peregrine falcon, are having difficulty finding space they can call home. Solving the problem of dwindling flyway habitat requires a united effort. National Wildlife Federation (NWF), the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia and other like-minded organizations are forming a Flyway Cities Coalition to work together to enhance the Atlantic Flyway within the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Get involved in the Flyway Cities Coalition! Join with others in your metropolitan area to protect and restore wildlife habitat.
